(2011) - This mixed media piece is part of a previous art project with the title “Flesh”. It is made up of sketchs from a visit to the Hunterian Museum with the school and other “fleshy” things I created for the sake of representing the exhibits in the museum. For those of you who don’t know what is in there or where it is it is a museum in London created by surgeon and anatomist John Hunter (1728-1793) of donations from of fossils, human and animal bodyparts and skeletons most of which have deformities for the purpose of medical research. I wanted to make the piece look as if it was created by a surgeon but also exaggerate the gore to make it slightly grotesque. If you want to know more about the museum and how to get here you can look at this site http://www.medicalmuseums.org/Royal-College-of-Surgeons-Hunterian-Museum/. I really enjoyed the visit and if you’re not squeamish you should really visit!
